Fresno County Grand jury: Fowler chief didn't file 100s of crime cases

Fowler's former police chief failed to file with the District Attorney's Office hundreds of criminal cases -- including ones involving attempted murder and sex offenses -- dating back to 2004, the Fresno County grand jury said in a report released today.

Most of the cases can no longer be prosecuted because the statute of limitations has expired, the report says.

The grand jury is calling on District Attorney Elizabeth Egan to investigate the Fowler Police Department to determine whether there was any criminal intent by the former chief, Darrell Jamgochian, who resigned in January.

Cases not prosecuted also included terrorist threats, embezzlement, drunk driving and domestic violence.

The report also said City Manager David Elias and the City Council failed to exercise oversight over the department.Neither Jamgochian nor Elias could be reached immediately for comment.
