[Kern County] Grand Jury recommends more sweeps, less showers at Taft MCCF

Panel says guards should check yard before inmates go out

The Kern County Grand Jury thinks the Taft Modified Community Correctional Facility needs a little more security and a little less water use.

Specifically, the watchdog panel recommended has the MCC guard check the exercise yard for contraband before inmates are allowed out.

Taft, like other community correctional facilities, has a problem with contraband being thrown over the fences, even with two chain link fences with barbed wire and motion sensors, the Grand jury said.
(A similar recommendation was made for Shafter's MCCF as well in a report issued Wednesday.)

The grand jury also suggested inmates be limited to showering at certain times to save water. Currently, inmates are allowed to shower any time between 6 a.m. and midnight.
