[Yolo County] League of Women Voters Community Luncheon keynote focuses on Grand Jury system in Yolo County

The Woodland League of Women Voters’ 25th Annual State of the Community Luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 28 from 11:30 a.m to 1 p.m.
The board of the League of Women Voters Woodland announces the silver anniversary of their annual fundraising event: the State of the Community Luncheon. Members dues primarily go to the national and state leagues. Local work, such as their ability to honor local individuals and agencies through the annual Democracy Works dinner, support the Youth Empowerment Summit, stage candidate forums, have materials for high school registrations and engage in other voter services, depends on augmenting the budget with a fundraiser. In keeping with the League of Women Voters mandate to serve the community, members prepare a luncheon of vegetarian soup, corn bread, salad and cake and engage a keynote speaker on a currently important subject.
This year’s luncheon will be held at the Woodland United Methodist Church located at Second and North Streets from 11:30 a.m. To 1 p.m on Thursday February 28. The keynote speaker this year will be Judge Daniel Maguire whose presentation is entitled, “The Past, Present, and Future of the California Grand Jury.”
While the event has been a success in the past, members hope to make the 25th the best yet. Please consider purchasing a table or being a sponsor. We will list sponsor’s names, businesses or organizations in our luncheon program. Prices for tickets and sponsorship are listed below:
  • Sponsorship: $50 includes one ticket and name in program.
  • Sponsorship plus four tickets: $85.
  • Sponsorship plus eight tickets: $150 (a reserved table plus program acknowledgement).
  • Individual ticket: $15 each.
To make a reservation, call Judy Simas at 530-662-1343.
