SALINAS, Calif. - Monterey County Sheriff Steve Bernal called a new grand jury report, criticizing law enforcement for not properly processing rape kits for sexual assault victims, misleading.
Nationwide reports of rape kits going untested and even destroyed led the Monterey County grand jury to research how rape kits are processed locally.
The grand jury found that law enforcement couldn't provide clear and consistent information to determine if there is a back log.
