The Stanislaus County civil grand jury has cleared the Stanislaus Economic Development and Workforce Alliance of allegations of wrongdoing in a report released Thursday.
A complaint filed with the grand jury alleged the alliance was improperly issuing tax credit vouchers to Patterson Vegetable Co.; alliance staff had ordered the deletion of voucher records; and the organization was soliciting money from businesses in exchange for such rewards as the tax credit vouchers.
The grand jury report concluded the alliance did not incorrectly issue the tax credit vouchers, did not order the deletion of voucher records, and there was no evidence the alliance solicited funds for any purpose other than to support its work as a nonprofit.
The tax credit vouchers allow a business to reduce what it owes in taxes if it hires workers considered disadvantaged based on state guidelines.
