LAKEPORT >> The Final Report of a Lake
County Civil Grand Jury is published in July of each year and responses to
recommendations contained therein are due within 90 days after publishing. The
2014-2015 Final Report’s responses were received by the Grand Jury as required
from both elected and appointed city and county officials.
Several recommendations that the 2014-2015
Civil Grand Jury made have either been implemented or are in the process of
being further investigated. A summary of the responses to the recommendations
is available online at www.lakecountyca.gov/GJresps.
A full view of the complete report and letters
of response is available at the Lake County Information Portal:

The institution of a Grand Jury is of ancient
origin. Its use as an instrument of government predates its introduction into
our country during colonial times. It is an institution that has continued
throughout American History. The Civil Grand Jury is an examining and
investigative body that makes recommendations to improve systems, procedures
and methods of operations in designated local government. As constituted today,
the Civil Grand Jury is a part of the judicial branch of government: “an arm of
the court.”
It does not have the functions of either the
legislative or executive branches and is not a police agency. It does not
mandate policy changes, nor does it handle criminal cases.
The Lake County
Civil Grand Jury is continually recruiting for members. Jurors serve for one
fiscal year at a time (July 1 through June 30), however alternates are often
needed at other times of the year. If you are interested in becoming a juror,
contact the current Jury Commissioner Yolanda Rosas at the Lake County Superior
Court at 707-263-2374, extension 2282.
