[Tehama County] Letter: Are we getting our money’s worth in economic development?

How sad that the annual Grand Jury report had to call out the city of Red Bluff’s shortcomings in economic and infrastructure development. We are all aware of how tight money is and how infrastructure is crumbling all over, not just in Tehama County.
However, the lack of job and economic promotion cited by the report is a bit of a shock. Amanda Jenkins, the Mayor of Red Bluff, is also one half of the Tehama Economic Development Corp., the other half being Caylyn Wright. Ms. Wright’s “day job” is Government Affairs Director for the Sacramento Association of Realtors, which one would think is a very time consuming position, much less with the added effort one would hope Ms. Wright be extending for the over $4,000 a month she receives for her Tehama County position.
Mayor Jenkins, however, is a full-time Red Bluff resident, receiving not just her benefits from serving on the City Council, but also $3,000 a month to promote local business through her contract with Tehama County. And the Grand Jury has just found that very promotion to be lacking to the point of chastising the city for it.
Exactly what is Tehama County paying these two bright and savvy women to do?
Perhaps the county would be better served by using the over $80,000 budgeted annually for their salaries to fix a few roads.
