The editorial bringing to light the work of the grand jury (“Marin Civil Grand Jury has a right to investigate Sausalito-Marin City schools,” Nov. 24) is an essential public service because it informs the public of the duties of this citizens watchdog group. California Attorney General Antonio Beccera cannot lawfully deny the grand jury its rights afforded by the state constitution. This citizen watchdog group, duly appointed by the court, has subpoena power to compel witnesses and demand documents in an effort to probe potential misconduct. This is its mission.
Beccera, not unlike our elected officials in Washington, D.C., easily forgets his mission: work at the behest of the citizens.
