The 2014-15 Santa Barbara County Grand Jury
determined the City of Santa Barbara's lease of the Las Positas Tennis Facility
at Elings Park was properly documented, supported and approved.
The Jury reviewed the contract, city
records and approvals from various City officials. The Jury also found that
while daily prices for use of the courts have gone up, they are similar to or
less than for other city municipal courts. There are usually two or more courts
open for public access.
"The Jury found the City of Santa
Barbara made a fiscally responsible decision regarding this lease agreement,
and the Park is in good shape. The tennis courts are adequately maintained and
there are ongoing fund-raising efforts for rebuilding the restrooms,
shower/locker rooms, and the storage/office building", said Sandi Miller,
2014-15 Santa Barbara County Grand Jury Foreperson.
The entire report, "Las Positas Tennis
Facility," can be found on the Grand Jury's website.
The Santa Barbara County Grand Jury is a
basic part of California government within the judicial branch. The Grand Jury
is charged with keeping watch over county government as well
as cities and districts operating within the county.
