[Santa Barbara County] Guadalupe city council disagrees with grand jury report; optimistic for city’s future

Guadalupe - Last night, the Guadalupe City Council vented its frustration and disagreement with a Santa Barbara County Grand Jury report, that advises the city to disincorporate.
Several members of council dismissed the findings of the report during last night's meeting and said the county didn't take into account what the city's done recently to fix its financial problems.
Johnny Perry has owned the Napa Auto Parts Store downtown for nearly fifty years.
Since Perry was just a teenager growing up in Guadalupe, a lot has changed.
And he remembers better days.
"Who are they to say 'Eliminate your city and turn it over to the county?'"
Perry's taking about the grand jury report, which highlighted Guadalupe's dark financial past, filled with budget problems and illegal transfers.
The report even said the city is relying too much on the new Pasadera development project
"The people passed the taxes, the three taxes," said Perry. "That's gonna help. And the new homes should help a little."
Mayor John Lizalde wasn't happy with the grand jury's findings.
"First of all, I disagree with it," said Lizalde.
He says disincorporation isn't even being considered.
"I didn't feel that they had recently been here," said Lizalde about the grand jury. "And the issues that came in the grand jury, we have addressed."
"The council we got in now, it seems like they're starting to work together," said Perry. "I hope for the best for the community. They're trying."
