In an attempt to take a bite out of dog attacks in San Francisco, the Grand Jury has issued a report with recommendations to help city and county agencies keep people safe.
The report focuses on three city-county government entities, saying that while they function "reasonably well" in protecting the public from dog attacks and bites, there are some areas that could be improved.
The Vicious and Dangerous Dog Unit of the San Francisco Police Department would benefit from a staff increase from one to two people to help with investigating dog complaints and record-keeping, according to the report.
The Grand Jury also recommended, among other things, that the unit be given direct access to the database for San Francisco Animal Care and Control to help with investigations.
The report recommended that San Francisco Animal Care and Control research how to restore emergency coverage of Animal Control officers to 24 hours a day from the current 19 hours per day.
