Delta [College] trustees on
Tuesday also formally approved their response to a Calaveras County grand jury
report that recommended that county sever ties with Delta.
The grand jury had argued
that while Calaveras residents were helping to pay for the bond, they had not
received the promised benefits — including a new satellite campus in the
foothills. The grand jury suggested Calaveras secede from the college district.
Delta's response defends the
decision not to build, saying a new campus would not yet attract enough
students to be cost-effective.
The college says it is
attempting to provide opportunities for Calaveras students, and its response
says it is not interested in changing district boundaries.
