UPDATE | 5:56 p.m. In response to a civil grand jury report criticizing the management of the South County wastewater treatment plant, district attorney Mike Seitz said today he was disappointed with some of the report’s conclusions.
“I don’t think they accurately reflect what’s going on at the district,” he said.
Seitz said the district had already started to make changes to increase transparency at the plant prior to the grand jury’s review. Those include the board’s decision to conduct a peer review and split John Wallace’s administrative and engineering contract into two separate contracts. The board will vote on the latter issue at its June 15 meeting.
To conduct the peer review, district staff has contacted people who work for special districts or in the wastewater field, according to a report Wallace gave to the district board Wednesday.
Wallace anticipates that the team’s report will be completed by August or September.
“We are trying harder to carry the district’s message of service to our public to a higher level,” Wallace wrote in the report to the board.
