The Kern County Grand Jury has released an
investigative report about the drought's effects on trees in the city of
Bakersfield. Maintaining the trees has proven to be a difficult task, and many
trees and suffered gravely. Nearly 1,500 trees have already been removed.
Bakersfield Parks and Recreation department will continue to monitor the status
of non-native trees as these have been the species that have been most
affected.
Officials say, once the drought subsides, new
trees will be replaced with more drought tolerant species.
The full Grand Jury report can be found on
the Bakersfield Parks and Recreation website later this week.
