The 2015-2016 Kern County Grand Jury would
like you to watch Kern Government Television.
The station, which broadcasts over Brighthouse
Networks Channel 16 and AT&T U-verse Channel 99 in Bakersfield, brings
viewers public service programming touching on everything from public health
topics to animal adoption efforts.
But the bread and butter of KGOV-TV, which the
grand jury notes was launched by the County of Kern in 1997, are the public
meetings it broadcasts weekly.
Can’t make it down to 1115 Truxtun Ave. at 9
a.m. or 2 p.m. each Tuesday for the meeting of the Kern County Board of
Supervisors?
Watch KGOV-TV to stay informed on everything
from fireworks ordinances to oil and gas permitting regulations.
The channel broadcasts (and rebroadcasts)
meetings of the Board of Supervisors, Bakersfield City Council, both city and
county planning commissions and meetings of the Kern Council of Governments,
the local urban planning agency.
The grand jury, in
a report released Wednesay, urged KGOV to explore ways to advertise its
existence and promote its community services and government programming to
outlying areas of the county.
