[Monterey County] Report finds Monterey Co. schools have inadequate active-shooter training

Several local schools are not fully preparing their students and staff for violence training, that is according to the Monterey County Civil Grand Jury.
The Monterey County Civil Grand Jury sent out a 31-page report concluding there are gaps in the training provided to school personnel and students.
Those gaps range from schools not using all the training resources, to not assuring that training included active shooter response training, suicide and bullying prevention, and threat assessment and mitigation.
The report was addressed to the Monterey County Superintendent, it stated their concerns are that schools are not adequately training. More examples of where the schools lack are not using online resources, or students joining late in the year are missing out on training material.
The report investigated the status of shooting prevention and response training in Monterey County public schools. The solution, according to the report, is asking schools to come up with safety plans. The grand jury said they would like to have review oversight out schools from the county. Schools should also use all resources available, according to the report.
The Monterey County Office of Education has 60 days to respond to the report, and write up a full comprehensive response.
